Felix Diamond's Perspective from AutoPassion
I love the CX-70. Practically identical to the CX-90 – except for a few small aesthetic details, its biggest difference is that it does not have a 3rd row of seats, allowing it to offer a more generous trunk volume. However, it offers the same powertrains, and it's those that make it such a formidable SUV! Whether you choose the turbo inline-6 and mild hybrid (up to 340 horsepower) or the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder plug-in hybrid (323 horsepower), you'll have a blast behind the wheel of the CX-70. If you love driving and need a luxurious SUV that has style and offers an excellent fuel consumption rating, the CX-70 should be at the top of your list!

A more aggressive look
From an aesthetic perspective, the brand new Mazda CX-70 stands out from the CX-90 with a more robust designed front bumper, complemented by larger simulated air intakes and a grille featuring decidedly sporty patterns. However, what attracts the most attention is the absence of any chrome element on the exterior, giving the CX-70 a more dynamic look. For instance, the grille, mirrors, window frames, roof bars, larger-sized spoiler, and exclusive 21-inch rims all have a black finish, enhancing the bold character of the CX-70.

New features in the cabin

While the dashboard of the CX-70 remains unchanged from that of the CX-90, customization options are now available, notably with the addition of red Nappa leather. In terms of technology, like its bigger sibling, the 2025 CX-70 offers a standard 10.25-inch dashboard screen and a central screen or an optional 12.3-inch one, but it stands out as the first Mazda vehicle equipped with Amazon's Alexa voice control system. This innovation allows the driver to control various functions such as air conditioning and radio while keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. Also notable is the integration of an SOS button, a first for Mazda, thus facilitating communication with emergency services in case of an accident for a quicker response.

In terms of dimensions, the CX-70 has a wheelbase of 3,120 mm, identical to that of the CX-90, but its overall length is slightly reduced thanks to more compact bumpers.
Given the absence of a third row of seats in the Mazda CX-70, designers had the opportunity to design a flatter trunk floor. Underneath it, a clever storage section offers several compartments. The maximum cargo volume of the CX-70 amounts to 2,147 liters, which is slightly more than the 2,101 liters offered by the CX-90.
Engines and specifications of the Mazda CX-70 2025
The 2025 CX-70 is available with two types of powertrains, either mild hybrid (MHEV) or Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV).
The mild hybrid versions (MHEV) are powered by a 3.3-liter turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine producing either 280 horsepower or 340 horsepower depending on the version. In all cases, an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are offered as standard. The towing capacity is up to 5,000 lbs for the most powerful versions.

The plug-in hybrid versions (/en/new/mazda-cx-70-phev-2025/) are equipped with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor powered by a 17.8 kWh battery. The combined power of the CX-70 PHEV is 323 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The electric range is 42 kilometers. As with the MHEV versions, the plug-in hybrid CX-70 offers an 8-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.
